In The Golden Dice, sequel to The Wedding Shroud, three women follow very different paths to survive a ten year siege between Rome and the Etruscan city of Veii:

Caecilia forsakes Rome to return to her Etruscan husband, Vel Mastarna, exposing herself to the enmity of his people and the hatred of the Romans who consider her a traitoress...

Semni, a reckless Etruscan girl, becomes a servant in the House of Mastarna, embroiling herself in schemes that threaten Caecilia's children and her own chance for romance...

Pinna, a tomb whore, uses coercion to escape her grim life and gain the attention of Camillus, Rome's greatest general, choosing between her love for him and her loyalty to another...

Historical Fiction at its best, this second volume in the Tales of Ancient Rome series explores the lives of women in war, giving a glimpse into the religion and politics of Roman and Etruscan cultures, two great civilizations in ancient history.

"There aren't many novels of the Roman world that provide such a comprehensive picture, which should give The Golden Dice great appeal for a variety of readers."
Sarah Johnson, reviews editor for Historical Novels Review

From the Author
Naming my saga the "Tales of Ancient Rome" gives the impression that the novels are solely about Rome but I also wanted to introduce my readers to the world of the Etruscans. My curiosity was first piqued to learn about these people when I saw an Etruscan sarcophagus depicting a couple embracing for eternity. The casket was unusual because, in this period of history, women were rarely commemorated in funerary art let alone a couple depicted in such a pose of affection. The image of the lovers remained with me. What kind of culture exalted marital fidelity while showing such an openly sensuous connection? What ancient society revered women as much as men? Discovering the answer led me to the decadent and mystical Etruscan civilization and the little known story of the ten year war between Rome and the city of Veii.

The three books in the saga tell the tale of this siege but I have endeavored to write each novel as a standalone to enable readers to access the story without needing to read them in order. The Wedding Shroud describes the journey of Roman Caecilia, the treaty bride sent to Veii to marry an enemy Etruscan nobleman, Vel Mastarna. In The Golden Dice, the characters of Pinna, a Roman tomb whore, and Semni an Etruscan servant girl, are introduced to give fresh perspectives. In Call to Juno, the reader will follow the lives and loves of these three women in a desperate quest for survival in the final year of the war. I hope you'll want to learn who will withstand the treachery of both mortals and gods.

About the Author
Elisabeth Storrs has long had a passion for the history, myths and legends of the ancient world. Elisabeth graduated from Sydney University in Arts Law, having studied Classics. She lives with her husband and two sons in Sydney, Australia, and over the years has worked as a solicitor, corporate lawyer and governance consultant.

The Wedding Shroud, the first novel in her Tales of Ancient Rome series, was judged runner-up in the 2012 Sharp Writ Book Awards for general fiction, and was a finalist in the 2013 Kindle Book Review Best Kindle Book of the Year in literary fiction. The Golden Dice was judged runner-up in the 2013 Sharp Writ Book Awards, and was named as one of the top memorable reads of 2013 by Sarah Johnson, the reviews editor for Historical Novels Review.
