Bar Joseph story telling ability - extracted from interviews and documents - is outstanding. As someone who actually participated in the Yom Kippur war, I could not stop reading. Many lessons to be learnt from both historical accounts as well as human nature so skilfully analysed and described. The writer introduces the politics of Egypt. That world is neither idealistic, nor is it a "film noir" world. Western readers expect individual desires for power or greed to influence policy. But in much of the world, the individual is less important than family, rank and contacts. The descriptions of Egypt under Nassar and Sadat are fascinating.

I was utterly fascinated and amazed at this story and had to keep pinching myself to confirm that it was, indeed, true!!! The "angel" who is depicted here was responsible for saving Israel many times and surely deserves credit for it; what was sad to report was the utter chaos in Israel surrounding the "angel's" actions, which almost resulted in disaster!!! Very well-written and I understand that a movie is in the process of being made, which I would love to see.

I love Sci-Fi books and I have read them for over 60 years. I have read thousands of Sci-Fi books. This book, written by Eric Nylund, is one of my favorites of all time. Just as a note, I don't play the Halo game so my review is only about the quality of the book.This story is absolutely full of action, aliens, military combat and of course the superhuman feats of the Spartan II warriors. This is a team of warriors that know no fear and each one can fight like a thousand other soldiers combined. Trained since the age of 6, genetically mutated and enhanced they have become the strongest military force in the galaxy. Coupled with a super smart Artificial Intelligence, AI named Cortana, they are unbeatable. Put them into their Mjolnir Assault Armor and they are almost virtually invincible.This book cames after the story about The Flood. Eric Nylund is the best author to write any of the Halo books. His books are by far the best stories and they are just superb Sci-Fi. I won't ruin the plot of the book as to many other reviews have already done that but if you love Halo stories this is one of the books you must read. I liked the book so much I purchased the Kindle version, then the large paperback version for my library and then the audio CD version to listen to in my car. I have read or listened to the book 5 times already.If you love super heroes you will love the Master Chief and what he does in this book. Get it, you will love it.I really liked this story and I have read it twice and listened to it twice on Audio and I enjoyed it every time!I feel that this story is one of the best military Sci-Fi books ever written. Eric Nylund is in my opinion the best author in the Halo saga series of books.

It was incredibly satisfying knowing what happened to Red team on reach, the unanswered question of how Sargeant Johnson got off Halo, and what happened to Master Chief after Halo. I'd love to see this story eventually become a part of the game series. (343 pls)The story is full of action and suspense, with tense situations and brilliant writing that sets the mood perfectly. I can't recommend this more for anyone who loves the Halo series or sci-fi in general (make sure to read the first two in the series beforehand though)

For some, the Halo Series has been at it's best when written by Eric Nylund. While the Flood certainly wasn't bad, combined with the fact that it was written by a different author with a plot that most of us knew, made it a little boring but nonetheless a more indepth version of Halo.However, Nylund is back and so is his brilliant style of writing and conveying scenes of non-stop acting in First Strike.Those who have loved the series so far will continue to be impressed with the newest novel until the one which will tell the story of Halo 2.First Strike, picks up pretty much right where Halo (The Flood) leaves off with John and Cortana floating in space in the hope of finding survivors. They find survivors and embark on a quest to find Reach and possibly any Spartan's left on it. Without spoiling the book too much, John will have some backup for the upcoming war with the Covenant.Overall, if you haven't read this book you're missing out on a great preview to Halo 2 and a great read for any science fiction fan as well.

I had the pleasure of reading Nylunds' Halo: Fall of Reach novel. It really humanized The Master Chief a video game character I thought awesome to begin with. In First Strike Nylund continues the story of Earths defense forces John 117 aka the Master Chief and his elite unit of Spartans. Every moment of danger, fear, anger and suffering at the hands of the Covenant is magnified. Eric Nylund does a great job of putting you in not only the Master chiefs awesome boots but also the boots of other heroes in the saga.

The Halo universe, games and novels, tells one of the top 5 greatest sci-fi stories of all time, in quality and quantity. This is a must have for TRUE Halo fans, and simply a really good sci-fi novel for those that aren't. This novel and all of the others in the Halo universe are fantasically written and are very easy reads. Each novel tells a truly awesome story and blends the action, drama, and even comedy very well. Kudos to this author and the others that have contributed to this amazing tale. I hope the Halo franchise and universe continue to evolve for a long long time.

First Strike, the third Halo novel, sees the welcome return of Eric Nylund to the Halo franchise. First Strike is a tight, tense narrative that builds to a satisfying conclusion. I'd recommend it to any Halo fan.For those who need convincing, with First Strike Nylund fills in several holes in the Halo timeline. In this book, we learn how the Chief returned to Earth after the destruction of Halo (as well as how Sergeant Johnson managed the same), gain greater insight into the activities of the UNSC High Command - the Office of Naval Intelligence in particular - and we also learn the fate of the rest of the Spartan-II's, who were left behind on Reach before it was glassed to defend the orbital generators.Nylund also does and excellent job of providing a larger window into the interior of Convenant society - including their attitude toward technology and the importance of their language.Most interesting for general science fiction fans will be the chapters narrated by Cortana, giving the reader a look at the ways a AI with beyond-human thinking speed could function.Any, of course, the Master Chief does impossible, dangerous things, and looks good while doing it.

I think this Is my favorite of the three in the series. Fast passed and you can't put it down.

I really like the original Halo books by Eric Nylund, they add so much. I was really happy since I could buy it on kindle and read it on the go, I only wish I bought Halo: The Flood and Halo: Ghosts of Onyx before it got removed from kindle

Lev Vygotsky, Luria's great teacher and friend, was convinced that variations in the mental development of children must be understood as a process including historically determined cultural factors. Guided by this conviction, Luria and his colleagues studied perception, abstraction, reasoning, and imagination among several remote groups of Uzbeks and Kirghiz―from cloistered illiterate women to slightly educated new friends of the central government.

The original hypothesis was abundantly supported by the data: the very structure of the human cognitive process differs according to the ways in which social groups live out their various realities. People whose lives are dominated by concrete, practical activities have a different method of thinking from people whose lives require abstract, verbal, and theoretical approaches to reality.

For Luria the legitimacy of treating human consciousness as a product of social history legitimized the Marxian dialectic of social development. For psychology in general, the research in Uzbekistan, its rich collection of data and the penetrating observations Luria drew from it, have cast new light on the workings of cognitive activity. The parallels between individual and social development are still being explored by researchers today. Beyond its historical and theoretical significance, this book represents a revolution in method. Much as Piaget introduced the clinical method into the study of children's mental activities, Luria pioneered his own version of the clinical technique for use in cross-cultural work. Had this text been available, the recent history of cognitive psychology and of anthropological study might well have been very different. As it is, we are only now catching up with Luria's procedures.

About the Author

Dr. Rosenow has spent his entire academic career at the Mayo Clinic, Rochester, Minnesota, where he was the chairman of the Pulmonary and Critical Care Division, one of the largest in the country. One of his fortes is the teaching of the interpretation of chest images to non-radiologists. As a result, he has collected over 1500 teaching films, many of which were converted to digital images to be used for teaching purposes. He is past-president of the American College of Chest Physicians, past member of the American Board of Internal Medicine, writing committee for pulmonary diseases, and an expert in Drug Induced Pulmonary Disease.

In 1975, after demonstrating that he could keep his OSS experiences hidden from the public for 30 years, the CIA asked Leith to team up with another wartime OSS officer, Father John in WW II, and interview people associated with the development of “round-wing planes,” both for our allies and for Germany. Neither group was allowed to use that technology for war, because both were assisted by wiser beings from off this planet. Genesis for The Space Race: The Inner Earth and the Extraterrestrials was dedicated to “an unsung hero, Jonathan E. Caldwell, inventor of this civilization’s first spacecraft.” He used several names for security. Read about him on Wikipedia. Like most CIA-approved releases, this 376-page book was required to have disinformation published with it and shown in a map of inner-Earth civilizations provided by an Atlantean cartographer. A 4-page Preamble helps the reader understand the disinformation and it’s need. This book falsely indicates Hitler went with other officers and scientists to New Berlin, accessed from Antarctica. Pope Pius XII trained him to convert pagans in the jungles of Ecuador. The map falsely shows 125-mile-diameter holes at each poll required by the CIA to keep wealthy people from spending their fortunes in attempts to access the Inner Earth to acquire advanced technologies. Leith’s term “Inner Earth” was sometimes changed to “Hollow Earth” and the story modified to match. Also, this book says that Hitler’s son came to his father’s funeral in Zaragoza, Spain in 1974, though the real funeral to which his son, born to Eva Braun in 1945, came was in Cuenca, Ecuador in 1978. It has three sections: Space Race, The Inner World of Extra Terrestrials, and Primer For a New Age of Space. Chapter XVII is titled Intrusion of Alien Beings into World Societies and Interviews with Leading Extra Terrestrials. The Epilogue describes how the 54-12 committee developed strategy for USA presidents since Eisenhower to maintain air supremacy into the 1980s and beyond. It describes foreign awards presented to Lt. General Caldwell after he retired in 1967, including a singular Congressional Medal presented by Eisenhower. The Appendix is titled Social, Political, Economic and Religious life in Inner Earth. Notes and Sources follow with excellent research on many controversial issues that came up during the interviews. Following are pictures of construction of New Berlin and a completed housing block with many German soldiers lined up for inspection. A 57-item bibliography from Occult and the Third Reich by Jean-Michel Angelbert to The Bible and Future Events by Leon Wood is listed. Between are: The Secret Doctrine by Blavatsky; UFO’s and Interplanetary Visitors by Fowler; Our Haunted Planet by Keel; Aliens from Space by Keyhoe; The Great White Brotherhood by Prophet; and Secret of the Ages – UFOs from Inside the Earth by Trench. Following Leith’s writing are addendums by the Owner, Robyn Andrews, who worked with Leith at conferences, and by MUFON Investigator Michael Forte who investigated Leith’s research specialist, Frank Hudson.
